Few pictures around my house. Doing some serious cleaning before Christmas at the moment.
Waiting on the plumber this week to take care of the leak in our area downstairs kitchen that we use a lot. Our lounge area is close by to the area of kitchenette and stove. Hopefully next year we can get some kind of redo. Apt size oven and stove top with a new sink, nothing fancy, just something to make the area more pleasant to cook in, summer especially and some canning. I stay downstairs mostly so this will be good.
Downstairs coming into our utility area. Tin man standing guard holding some faux poinsettias.
I didn't have anywhere else better to set them, so in his arms they sit.
Sitting on table at front entrance is the printed song with Mary and Joseph. Now that I am thinking about it. I will draw with my gold pens a star over top of manger, Mary and Joseph.
While doing last minute cleaning I had a fruit cake in oven. I used the recipe on container of dried fruit. I boiled water and poured some over the fruit to soften. Cranberry juice is called for in the recipe. I used unsweetened as I think there is enough sugar in the fruit already.
I put in walnuts. This is the bottom of cake I took from pan to cool. It is very good. Very moist.
I made a round one too. This loaf was excess batter, so I put in a loaf pan.
Meanwhile in the kitchen
My window in the kitchen
Nothing special but decorative anyway
I am liking skinny green ribbon.
I was watching a video @hillhouse vintage. Have watched her for several years. Hillhouse vintage blog of hers is great too. I love her Christmas tree this year with the small olive green ribbons.
I purchased this ribbon months ago. It sparkles and didn't want to just use it on packages so up it went on several things around the house. Well seeing the backside of ribbon ruins it for me. Gotta get back on ladder and fix.
My chandelier has little green bows too
rosemary on my window
I sent off a photo I took and made into Christmas cards. Not many made this year because the price went up quite a bit and so did shipping.
I had a pillow also made of the same pic as cards. It's taken from my window of the snow in January of Hemlock tree and Lavender Cottage aka children's playhouse. They are older so now it's called mostly lavender cottage.
The hanging candle is on a timer I placed my metal ivy in planter with faux greenery.

vintage made arrangement purchased a few years back.

Ground orange rind. First, I dried rind in my air dryer and then ground up for cakes and chocolate chip cookies.
needs to be ground more but just showing how it looks
adding to batter for my cranberry orange muffins
out of oven and sprinkled with confectioners' sugar
Last bite... Can ya see the little bits of orange? It is so good made this way.
Lovely decorations in your home, Betsy! I'm imagining how wonderful your baking must be adding to the festivities of Christmas. Love the fragrance of orange and your dried rinds must add big flavor to your baked goods! Your Christmas card is lovely! Have a great Christmas with your dear family.
ReplyDeleteDearest Betsy,
ReplyDeleteYou sure have decorated and done a lot, even baking yummy goodies.
As for us, we are glad we're alive and I certainly cannot climb, reach, stretch or bend as the pain punishment is too grave. In our kitchen bay window the wreath with the silver balls and silver angel is hanging.
A dear friend sent us the most beautiful flower arrangement in Christmas style and that sits on the table.
Drove this morning to the only Podologist in Georgia for a medical Pedi– and Manicure. Feeling good about that. Made a mistake by carrying my purse on left shoulder and it set off the pain. Pieter ought to have taken that... did not ask him. We will be swimming after Pieter's nap time and hope that works well.
Have walked with my wheelchair/walker 4 times one mile and 1.2 miles the 4th time. Then the rain started and we had a big, nasty leak from the main water pipe near driveway and road. They messed up our lawn big time and the driveway...
Big hugs and enjoy the remainder of Advent and Merry Christmas!
Mariette
Dear Mariette, I sympathize with what you are going through. Taking a trip like you did to the Pedologist only to have something simple like carrying your purse on shoulder and have such pain caused by that.
DeleteI am impressed going as far as you have with your walker.
I hope the company will be very good at putting things right with your driveway and yard. What a mess. We had a lot of rain, every step was a mire down and muddy, like a swamp here. My sister in Maine has had lots of rain. She had a package delivered and the mail man got stuck in their driveway very bad and tow truck came and pulled him out.
I am keeping you and Pieter in my prayers. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and great New Year!

DeleteYour Christmas card picture is just lovely! I am a person who loves fruit cake! Unfortunately I am the only one here who does. And those muffins - yum!!!! Your home is very festive.
ReplyDeleteThis fruitcake was different than the others I have made. It was more of an Ambrosia cake. Very moist with a tropical flavor. Pineapple flavor came through really well. Thank you for visiting and Happy Christmas.
DeleteYour home is nicely decorated for the holiday, and I especially love the garland over the kitchen window. The muffins look so delicious, I can almost taste them. I'm wishing you a beautiful Christmas filled with love. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you Yvonne. Happy Christmas Wishes to you and your
DeleteBetsy,
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!! I love your decorations!! The card is really pretty!! I only sent out 22 cards this year...I used to send 80 out when we were first married....I always had them custom made until maybe 10 years ago, I stopped doing that....It will be a quiet Christmas for us this year as my son and DIL are staying home as they wait for their twin daughters to be born....
Hugs,
Deb
Thank you Debbie. I am having trouble getting comments in my email again. I just saw this by checking my comments in blog.
