decorating

Almost finished decorating my tree.  Working outside and inside is not too great the past few days because it is getting colder.  I want everything done by Saturday.

Almost finished my tree here

One more season of use for these old bows.  Adding a glitter pick  and little shiny ornaments sets it off.

I have paper on the inside door to show wreath up.

blueberry muffins, so easy to make.  self-rising flour, sugar, butter oil egg and I have a sprinkling of sugar on top

Riding through the town are some nice decorations.  Some have started putting them up.

Rest of Christmas

We are still enjoying Christmas decorations.

I did take the tree down on the porch but will leave the rest til  Epiphany.  I like to see the wreaths on the windows a bit longer too.

New ribbon this year.  I mixed the glittered and the plain velvet.

I used black and white checked ribbon with some white

Vintage Choir dolls a friend gifted me one Christmas.

More Choir dolls in living room.
I found these at Roses store years ago.  Roses used to have some unique items at one time.  Well, I went through my pictures and not one did I take of the front of the dolls.

A sweet Santa and bag of gifts from my sister in Maine
A vintage collage of figures purchased from a vintage shop
Looks like Santa has a big gold nose

While in Fredericksburg by train with the grand girls, Genevieve pointed out this beautiful Elf doll.  She asked if I liked it.  I love these dolls or decorations and told her I did.
She remembered with her Mom shopping at a vintage type shop seeing one just like it for sale close to home.  She showed to her Mom and asked her to get it for me. I thought that was just so thoughtful and so sweet of her. She couldn't wait til I opened it on Christmas.

I received this so sweet little book with some recipes for Christmas and such meaningful verses.

I found this tiny little wooden nativity at Barnes and Noble for Adalyn

My sister made this for Christmas.  She used vanilla beans imported from Madagascar, sounds good to me and look forward to using very soon.  Such a unique gift.  So happy to receive it and the cute Santa hat she packaged in.  She made the label too.

Looking out the window I see Santa and Snowman. The Santa was purchased for grandson Seth when he was about 5 years old I am guessing.  He is now 21.
Blow molds I hear them called.

Home lit up at night.

Always silver bells displayed somewhere at Christmas.   Lamp post this Christmas
I love this song found words on Pinterest

I didn't get any stills of us on Christmas day. I am sure others did.  Others took pictures when it was time to serve dinner.  I did get a few on video.

Opa took the girls to James Center.  We started taking them just about every year except last year since very young, strolling in a stroller..
Genevieve found Rudolph

He was cute lit up at night.  Again, later this year he will come out.

Train and some Christmas at home

Hope all had a Happy Christmas.   The month of December flew by.  I was not in a hurry to shop or even decorate.  I took it slow and enjoyed the season.  I did get most of my decor up by the first but on and off tweaking and rearranging during the season.  Wind blew some things down, but we go them back up along with some lights.  The weather turned blustery cold.  Not a new thing, I remember some mighty cold and very snowy winters.

Wednesday before Christmas we took grandchildren for a train ride to Fredericksburg. They wanted to experience a train, and this was the perfect short trip for them to shop and have meal at Sammy T's.

We caught the train at our Ashland station

What cold day it was
Inside the visitor center at Ashland 1923 train station.  Museum houses RF&P railroad memorabilia

Our seats were facing each other in the very front which was pleasant
The Amtrak conductor offered the girls a tour of train since it was their first time to show them around.  They hopped up right away to take a look
Very pleasant first train experience.

Genevieve captured some pretty scenery along the way
Now arrived and
on our way downstairs to the street

The city of Fredericksburg Va. dates back to pre-colonial times.
Several historic buildings from 18th and 19th century are here

children had burger and fries
Steve had stir fry
Shops were closed by 6 o'clock. Little surprised at that.  Not quite as decorative as in past years but still the experience of the train ride was important to them.

A window with Christmas scene
We had time til the train came so we popped into the hotel lounge Starbucks for hot chocolate.
It was so cold and so thankful the train was only 15 minutes late

We left at 8:30 p.m.  Good day it was

Now
Back home with some Christmas decor

I hung this mirror found at a thrift shop with a plant holder beneath and flickering candle
The gold ivy leaves are from a sale that I stuck in with the poinsettia flowers

I dried some oranges and place them in container with pine cones and incense oil to scent entry way

A video and hope for one more Christmas post.   Not enough time in the days it seems anymore.  Well, I am a lot slower than I used to be also.
